I love cool evenings, warm cozy sweaters and a cup of hot coffee on a brisk morning… BUT, most days I feel unmotivated and sluggish now that the clouds have taken over and the sun disappears as soon as it says ‘Good Morning”.
Trying to get motivated is like pulling teeth, but I recently discovered a trick which has helped pull me out of an unmotivated funk.
BOOKS! I never could get into the whole reading a book on a tablet thing. A traditional paper copy for me please!
When I wake up, I immediately grab for my most recent inspiration in the form of a soft cover book. I take 15 minutes to read in the morning and BAM! I want to ROCK my day!
I seem to gravitate towards non-fiction at the moment. Since starting my business, I love reading about other inspirational #GirlBosses or writers.
The books that have given me a kick in the butt recently:
EVERYBODY WRITES – ANN HANDLEY
I highly recommend this book if you’re interested in writing. Funny, informative and an easy read, Handley makes writing sound like shopping at your favourite shoe store. With tips, tricks and inspirational chapters, I couldn’t put this book down!
This is also the inspiration for my Facebook Group: Everybody Writes – a space for bloggers and writers to support one another! Feel free to drop in and say hello!
MILK AND HONEY – RUPI KAUR
Ok, if you haven’t read or dabbled in this poetry loving novel… it’s time you do! Not only is the writing amazing, but she is CANADIAN! Enough said. Her writing is raw, honest and speaks to all the right places.
She recently came out with her second novel, the sun and her flowers. Looking forward to starting it!
#GIRLBOSS – SOPHIA AMORUSO
I couldn’t leave this one off. Although sometimes I found the writing to be a tad immature, you have to applaud Amoruso for being true to herself #YouDoYou. I had this novel read in under a week (which may not seem that impressive, but I give myself a well deserved nod considering my schedule).
Currently on my night stand is Carrie Green, founder of Female Entrepreneur Association’s novel She Means Business. It’s an easy read, but I’m quite enjoying it so far!
Looking for more?
Now, if you prefer a little fiction in your life, I teamed up with a fellow Blogger, Claudia Wiercinski at The Prettier Life, who recently wrote a FANTASTIC post about her favourite novels! There are some great ones on her list and she offers a TON of recommendations!
Keep reading fellow Creatives.
